He slightly opend his mouth and whistled tunes without moving his lips.
I was eight at the time and I dont know what I wanted to prove but I guess I needed to show that girls could whistle too.
On my way home from school I got so carried away with practicing whistling just like Tom.
I stopped at an Appartment building accross the street from the Tennis Court, and went behind the building in to the garden. I sat on a bench and continued my practice.
At three o'clock I heard the churchbell and thought: Oh my god, Grandma must be worried she expected me home at one o'clock.
What was I going to tell her, that I got carried away trying to learn how to whistle, she'd be mad!
I walked to the street. On my way there I met a couple I had an idea. I walked to the couple and said: "Would you mind walking home with me, I am late and Grandma will be so angry, would you be able to explain to her that I practiced how to whistle? The couple laughed whilst I demonstrated what I had taught myself for the last three hours.
To my Grandmothers astonishment she openend the door to me and two complete strangers. Grandma was looking at me with a stern look on her face. The strangers then told her what happened and Grandma had to laugh.
When the strangers had left Grandma said: "If you ever decide to learn something again on your way home, try not to get carried away so I dont worry, but most of all don't talk to strangers like that! This time you were lucky and they where nice but you never know dear, you never know!"
I did'nt really know what Grandma meant by "you never know..." Later that evening I was listening to the radio, hearing that a little girl got kidnapped!
I got the message!
I was lucky...I whistled away!
